Vanlife four seasons: how to ride comfortably all year round in Quebec

Living in a van in Quebec is magical. Forests on fire in autumn, lakes as far as the eye can see in summer, snowy roads lined with fir trees in winter... But let's be honest: true freedom is when you can experience this vanlife all year round, regardless of the weather.

Pier-Luc internally, as ski enthusiasts for several years, had the opportunity to test our vans in winter conditions of down to -25°C. Even after several days in off-grid mode, comfort remained optimal thanks to our high-capacity Webasto 4 kW system combined with a 12V heated floor, all supported by a great energy autonomy.

The challenge: facing the Quebec climate in a van

Quebec is -30°C in January and +30°C in July. For a Class B campervan, it's a real test. Humidity, bitter cold, autumn winds, spring mud... All these elements test the quality of your layout. And that's where a lot of “3 season” conversions reach their limit.

At Van Quest, we have made four-season furniture our specialty. Because we live here, like you... and we really like to play outside.

What you need for a real 4-season van

1. Insulation designed for winter in Quebec

Our vans are insulated with 3M Thinsulate™, a high-performance material known for its ability to block cold, humidity and noise, while allowing the walls to breathe. For the floor, 1½ inch XPS Soprema rigid boards are used, offering excellent thermal resistance and long-term durability.

This combo ensures a stable interior temperature, even in extreme cold, while reducing condensation and improving the overall fuel efficiency of the vehicle.

2. Reliable and quiet gasoline/diesel heating

• Our vans are equipped with Webasto heating (2kW or 4 kW), powered directly by the vehicle's tank.

• Coupled with an optional 12V heated floor, you will never have cold feet when you wake up again.

3. Complete and reliable electrical autonomy

Our vans are designed to allow you to live comfortably, without depending on campsites or charging stations. The electrical system is entirely based on Victron Energy components, recognized for their reliability and performance in extreme conditions.

We use high-capacity lithium Epoch batteries, coupled with solar panels, a DC-DC charger and a 3000W inverter, to power all your needs: heating, lighting, fridge, 120V sockets, ventilation and more. Whether you are parked in a national park or on an isolated land, you have the autonomy you need for several days off grid, summer and winter.

4. Insulated windows, four-season water system, controlled ventilation

• Our thermal window covers and insulated blinds effectively reduce heat loss, ensuring better comfort in all seasons.

• Our water systems are designed to work in winter conditions, when the van is heated. And when the vehicle is not in use, complete winterization can be done in under 30 minutes, minimizing any risk of frost.

• Intelligent ventilation (Maxxair Fan) makes it possible to manage humidity effectively and to maintain healthy air on board, even on cold nights.

Why choose a semi-modular Class B van for winter?

The semi-modular model allows you to keep most of the 4-season comfort while customizing the space according to your needs: skiing, remote work, family, sports equipment...

It is a balance between tailor-made and manufacturing efficiency. No need to reinvent the wheel — but you have the freedom to adapt it to your adventure.
